This is where the necessity for good lotions come in, no matter the skin type.
Making commercial body lotion at home with natural ingredients can be your breakthrough business idea. Today, we’ll give you a body lotion recipe, and practical steps to begin your new venture.
First Things First!
Know the difference between body lotion, butter, cream and oil
Before heading on with the recipe, it’s important that we go through some skincare basics. There is a difference between body lotion, body butter, body cream, and body oil.
Body butter:
It has creamy and rich properties. Its smell is not only stronger but it lasts longer than the other types. It is simply a mixture of carrier oils and essential butter. It does not contain water. Butters is the essential fats and minerals that are extracted from natural ingredients like palm, mango, nuts, and cocoa. Butters is best used for dry skin and delicate skin, or in a dry climate where moisture can escape from the skin.
Body cream:
It contains the same ingredients as body butter with additional water-based ingredients, such as aloe vera, herbal infusion, and hydrosol. Manufacturers sometimes also add wax, such as beeswax; mild thickeners like xanthan; or emulsifiers like borax. Body cream is suitable for all skin types.

Body oil:
They resemble the natural oils in our skin and as such are easily absorbed. They are softening, nourishing and most emollient for the skin. Body oils don’t clog pores (non-comedogenic) but it’s recommended to avoid oils in acne prone areas such as the face, chest, and back for those with acne prone skin. Body oils are best for dry, rough skin and are best applied to warm, damp skin that is immediately after a bath. They can also be used for body massage treatments.
Body lotion:
Body lotions are the lightest type and they absorb quickly because of their higher water content. They do not necessarily moisturize as much or stay as long on the skin as cream or butter and as a result, are more adapted for oily skin. They are usually applied to arms, stomach, and thighs. Body lotions are suitable for use in hotter, more humid climates.
RECIPE TIME!
This body lotion recipe is easy to make and it can equally be used for baby diaper rash, eczema, and above all, it is great for preventing stretch marks.

STARTING THE BODY LOTION BUSINESS FROM HOME
Let’s say you want to make some money out of this newfound passion of yours – making body lotions. Is the demand for your product increasing as you share them with those around you? Then it’s high time you started your body lotion making business from home. Let’s help you with planning this business, shall we?
-
Study the market:
You must research and find out who your competitors are and what they do differently. What are the particularities of each brand that attracts the customers? Also, you must find out what group of people would tend to use your products; study that group. If you understand the market, then you can dominate it.
-
Choose a name:
Your product must have a name that represents both you and your vision. Choose a name that is easy to remember, yet has a special flare. Be careful to not merely choose a name you love but which may not appeal to your customers. You could do a questionnaire with your name options and share among your prospects to see what name they like best.
-
Branding:
You must have a clear picture of the message you want to pass across. This will be your trademark and the power point to attract your customers. The way you brand your product – the name, color, logo, and packaging – should reflect the vision you have. It also should be an unforgettable picture in the mind of your customers. Every time they see a color or shape, they should be able to think of your brand.
-
Pricing:
Besides sharing your ingenuity with the world, your aim is to make a profit. Never think of pricing your product too low. You must consider in your pricing the cost you incur to buy your ingredients, make the lotions and package them, not forgetting the cost of preservatives to lengthen the life span of the products. The quality of your product should play a vital role in the pricing.

Advertising:
This is essential to create awareness. People must know you are “around”. Get the information going by every means available! Do not neglect the good old word of mouth strategy; also, make use of social media and do promotions, use flyers or run adverts on TV. You must not do all we suggest since you are a starter. Go in for the most effective option that suits your budget.
-
Raising the Funds:
There are several ways you can raise the funds for your body lotion business. Let us inspire you: You could get a loan from the bank. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, look to your salary then and save from it (if you have a job). Other options include getting a loan from your friends or family. Or, you could sell some of your old stuff like clothes and shoes that can still be used; furniture, kitchen equipment, etc.

Equipment and packaging:
Be ready to shop for some new equipment. As your supply grows, you would need a larger vessel to melt the oil and stir. Consider the cost of buying bigger bowls and lotion tubes or containers. You would need to decide if you want to use tubes, glass, or plastic containers to store your lotions.
